BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin. The talks centered on bilateral ties, economic cooperation and development. They also reviewed regional and international developments, with attention to diplomacy, peace and international security. The meeting took place during President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul discussed ways to strengthen the UAE-Germany strategic partnership across several areas. Economic ties and development cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. The ministers also exchanged views on international issues and efforts to address crises through diplomatic channels. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the depth of relations between the two countries and their record of cooperation across political and economic fields.

The Berlin meeting came as the UAE and Germany expanded the formal framework for their bilateral relationship. Sheikh Mohamed met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the state visit. The two leaders announced a Strategic Dialogue covering security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate and technology. It also includes digitalization, transport, environmental cooperation, culture and education, widening the range of areas handled through regular government engagement.

Strategic partnership gains broader economic framework

The two governments also supported plans for a German-UAE Investment Council. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to increase links between public institutions and private companies in both countries. Officials also welcomed the resumption of the Joint Economic Committee and the results of a bilateral business forum. The visit produced 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at more than 9.356 billion euros, according to the joint government declaration.

Economic discussions extended to energy, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration covered cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen and energy efficiency. It also referred to plans for advanced data centers with around one gigawatt of capacity. Germany and the UAE identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional areas for bilateral work, alongside investment and industrial cooperation.

Diplomacy and regional security remain on agenda

Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul also addressed regional and global developments during their meeting. Their discussions included international efforts to support peace, stability and security. Diplomacy and the peaceful handling of crises formed part of the agenda. The German government had also identified Middle East peace and stability among the subjects under discussion during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, placing the foreign ministers’ talks within the broader diplomatic program in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh attended the meeting between the two foreign ministers. The talks linked foreign policy discussions with the economic and development priorities covered during the state visit. They also followed earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The latest meetings added new institutional mechanisms to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, while preserving economic cooperation, investment and diplomacy as central elements of the relationship.
