SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / –  Samsung Electronics unveiled its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London, introducing three new devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean tech giant showcased refreshed hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI features across all models. This announcement marks the official debut of the Ultra variant within Samsung’s foldable device lineup, aimed at enterprise users and featuring the slimmest foldable profile to date at 4.1 millimeters when unfolded, with a weight of 215 grams.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 features a reimagined form factor, weighing 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone produced by Samsung so far. It boasts a 10:16 cover screen aspect ratio and a 4:3 main display ratio, allowing the device to adapt seamlessly to various content types, from browsing and reading to video playback. Both screens utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster technology. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, it includes a 4,800 mAh battery.

To enhance durability while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display structure for its premium foldables. This architecture combines a titanium-alloy film with a support plate made of titanium to absorb impacts, distribute mechanical stress, and minimize visible creasing over many folding cycles. The hinge mechanism, magnetic force, and display tension were fine-tuned to ensure smoother opening actions. For outdoor use, a low-reflection finish helps preserve color vibrancy even in bright environments.

    Enhanced Hardware and Multitasking Features

The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra expands its screen real estate to an 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display along with a 6.5-inch cover screen. Designed for intensive multitasking and media production, the Ultra model features a 200-megapixel main camera with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto module. It supports 8K video recording with the APV codec and includes Cine LUT color management tools for professional-grade video editing workflows.

Inside, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra incorporates an advanced graphite cooling system to better manage heat during demanding tasks. It is powered by a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery with a 45W dual-path fast-charging system designed to optimize current flow across both cells. Performance options include up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, all running on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Intelligence and Release Strategy

Alongside the larger foldables, Samsung introduced the compact Galaxy Z Flip8, which measures 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighs 180 grams. It features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main screen, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldables come equipped with AI-driven software tools developed in collaboration with Google, such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, designed to automate workflows, summarize complex information, and enhance app navigation.

Availability for the Galaxy Z Fold8 lineup begins immediately with global pre-orders following the Unpacked presentation, with retail distribution scheduled for August 7, 2026. Pricing starts at $1,899.99 for the base Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Ultra and Flip8 models feature updated hardware prices across regional markets. This launch underscores Samsung’s ongoing strategy to promote foldable devices within premium consumer and business segments worldwide.
