BANGKOK, THAILAND / RankWire.AI / – Since September 16, flooding across Thailand has resulted in 71 fatalities and caused widespread disruption throughout the country. A total of 51 provinces have been impacted during this period. As of October 12, water continued to cover 20 provinces and Bangkok. Official data indicated that 908,595 households and 2,458,895 individuals were affected. The floods have damaged residences, agricultural land, and local infrastructure, prompting authorities to conduct extensive emergency and recovery operations.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported flooding in 100 districts, 804 subdistricts, and 5,947 villages. Central regions remained among the hardest hit, with swollen rivers and runoff exerting pressure. By October 12, water levels had stabilized or decreased in many areas, yet officials continued to monitor rising waters in parts of Phitsanulok and Phetchaburi. Emergency teams kept pumps and heavy machinery active where drainage was still challenging.

Heavy monsoon rains and runoff from northern Thailand pushed large quantities of water into the central river basins. Several rivers and their tributaries overflowed, flooding residential neighborhoods and farmland. Earlier in October, floods affected more than 1.14 million households and approximately 3.18 million people nationwide. The latest figures on October 12 showed a decline in active flooding as water receded in some regions, but significant disruption persisted in areas where homes, fields, and roads remained submerged.

Thailand ramps up recovery efforts as floodwaters recede

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul instructed authorities to begin rehabilitation in locations where water levels had dropped enough for cleanup operations. The focus was on restoring roads, public services, and community infrastructure. Senior officials and ministers oversaw response activities in still-flooded zones. Emergency teams continued deploying supplies, operating pumps, and clearing debris from affected districts. Local authorities worked to reopen roads and facilitate residents’ return to their damaged homes and businesses.

As conditions improved, Bangkok shifted from emergency response to cleanup and service restoration, with officials processing flood assistance applications and crews removing waste from affected neighborhoods. On October 12, nine highway segments across five provinces remained inaccessible due to flooding, with transportation authorities providing alternative routes around closures. Drainage efforts persisted in low-lying areas where standing water slowed the recovery process.

Flood relief payments are extended to more affected households

By October 12, assistance had been delivered to 135,782 households, totaling over 1.069 billion baht in aid. Authorities urged provincial and district offices to process pending applications swiftly and expedite support for qualified residents. Relief measures included food supplies, drainage equipment, and cleanup aid. Damage assessments continued as more communities became accessible, with officials closely monitoring river levels and local conditions while expanding recovery operations in areas no longer facing immediate flood threats.

Attention also turned to southern Thailand amid forecasts of increased rainfall in the region. On October 13, Ranong and Yala faced heightened risk of heavy rain. Authorities prepared personnel, equipment, food supplies, and transportation resources in anticipation of potential new flooding. Emergency agencies maintained nationwide monitoring of rainfall and river levels while recovery efforts continued elsewhere. The overall strategy remained centered on assisting affected populations, reopening transportation links, and restoring vital services across flood-affected zones.
